A Toronto cybersecurity firm built a finance app.

That sentence reads strange. Here’s why it makes sense.

Why this product

Mirror started as a question we kept asking ourselves: what if every dollar we spent was a fraction of our life? Vicki Robin and Joe Dominguez wrote about this in 1992. Henry David Thoreau wrote about it in 1854. The idea is older than the language we use to discuss money.

Most personal finance apps treat spending as a problem to solve. They roast you, gamify you, send notifications, build “spending personalities,” and try to make you feel something so you’ll optimize. We don’t think most people need to be optimized. We think most people just need to be able to see.

So we built Mirror. It does not connect to your bank, your payroll, or any third-party service. You enter your post-tax hourly rate. You log your transactions yourself. The app does the math, on your phone, every time. It shows you your last 30, 90, or 365 days as a single number: how many hours of your life.

That’s the whole product.

The Redact Labs connection

Mirror is a Redact Labs product.

Redact Labs is a Toronto-based cybersecurity, IT infrastructure, and audio-visual services firm. We protect financial data, personal data, and donor data for charities, sports venues, and growing Canadian and US businesses. That’s the day job.

When we decided to build a consumer product, the natural place to start was the category we already understood: financial data. So we wrote down everything an attacker could steal from a finance app. Then we removed each one.

What was left is Mirror: an app with no servers, no bank login, no account, no third-party SDK, and zero network calls. There is no breach to read about, no API key to rotate, no aggregator concentrating risk. Your data sits in the iOS app sandbox on your phone, encrypted by hardware whenever the device is locked.

Most consumer finance apps treat security as a launch checklist. We treated it as a constraint on what the product could even be.

We can’t lose what we never had. The simplest privacy posture is no data collection at all.

How we work

Reflection over optimization.

We show. We don’t tell. The user decides what to do with what they see.

Privacy by architecture.

When you share a Mirror reflection, dollar amounts never appear. Enforced at the rendering pipeline, not the UI.

Built to last.

Mirror is funded by Pro subscriptions and Redact Labs. No advertisers, no data brokers, no investor pressure to grow at all costs.

Calm by default.

No streaks. No nudges. No spending personality quizzes. The product is the reflection.

Talk to a human.

We respond personally, usually within 24 hours. No support ticketing system, no chatbots.
